Alan Rickman and Harry Potter: The Porn Site...
Okay, so in recent interviews with Alan Rickman, he mentions twice the existence of Harry Potter porn sites. Is it only me but does this kind of unsettle anyone? I don't know, I don't feel too comfortable with Alan knowing about this and actually talking about it in interviews. I didn't have a problem when Jason Issaccs said he read fanfic with Lucius so he could see how the fans pictured him (and come on, Jason is a pretty opened minded guy, I'm almost positive he read some slash), but Alan...he hasn't even read the fanfic, but still, I just feel very odd that Alan is talking about it. Too much, in my opinion. What is he trying to say with that? I have an inkling what he's trying to do/say, and I don't like it. Then again, Alan does seem to be more on the conservative side, I would think. *sigh*

Also, no idea if this is just me again, but I don't like the word "porn". I rather like "erotica" (more sophisticated and a lot of the HP adult rated fanfics ARE erotica) or the more internet used word pr0n! :D

yeah I always think it's funny when I see the stars comment about fanfic, slash or fandom in general. I'm sure lots of them peruse the fan sites and maybe a little bit of fic on occasion. One thing to remember is that Alan is almost twenty (ok 17 1/2, just checked imdb) years older than Jason. That's a basically a generation. So Sixty something Alan is more likely to be a lot more "old fashioned" than forty something Jason. (also funny is that Lucius if 5or6 years older than Snape).

Yup, yeah, I had figured Alan's age was a very large reason for his conservatism, "old fashioned" ways. And yes, it IS funny that! It looks like on screen Severus is older than Lucius, lol.

Meh, I'm not surprised and I can even understand if Alan's a bit weirded out by fanon. It's awesome that Jason's cool with it, but he's really the exception. Alan's expressed before that people should recognize his entire body of work, not just his portrayal of Snape. It would be frustrating as an actor to be typecast as one character.

/crosses fingers that Alan has not seen the Snarry manips. :O

Yup. I guess for me I just feel kind of uncomfortable with him telling practically the whole world, you know? I don't like that. And I totally understand his frustration with being typecast.

Oh god, seriously, I hope he NEVER sees those Snarry manips or those very rare Alan/Dan fanfics. lol!

We haven't been under the radar since this whole LJ shit, I would say. Then again, some would argue that we haven't been under the radar since Jo talked about the odd pairings on the net in her NY tour in 2005/2006. I DO believe we had been under the radar even after those few C&S letters from WB/publishing. Basically they just wanted the content to be password protected. Done and whola! They left those adult websites alone.

lol! And the few one's I read were actually good. All by the same author, with an overage Dan. I kind of felt weird reading them, lol!, but they were so good that I enjoyed them. Good writing does that! ;)

Hey, wandered over here and went and looked at the transcripts you link to.

*squirm*

Gah. He makes it sound so dirty, which, well, it is. And he also makes it out to be real-person slash, which does make me feel queasy. He seems to assume the porn's about him. And, well, I don't think I could write a sex scene thinking about Rickman's portrayal of Snape. Not entirely.

It's upsetting also, that he obviously didn't stop to take a look at the much more mainstream stuff.

I do agree that it's all better termed "erotica". From the sound of it, Rickman's not quite grasping the social asides of fanfiction, that underneath the "let's take these two characters and rub them together" thing, there's the "it's more acceptable to work my kinks out in writing than it is to proposition someone in real life (especially if you're a woman)" bit, and the "I could learn to write from playing in this world, and romance (or PWP) is a straightforward way to do that" bit.

There's also the "god, it's hard to have male homosexual sex when you're a girl, and frankly thinking about another woman having sex is not much of a turn-on to me." (;

Yup, he sure does. He probably thinks that just by writing Snape, we the fans are imagining Alan himself. Most of the time it isn't even like that. I know I don't imagine any of the cast members when I read fanfic or read the books. They look different for me in my head, as I'm sure it looks like for many people.

And yeah, most of what I've read of HP fanfic is erotica. Sure, there's porn out there, well written porn too (would porn be the PWP's, maybe?), but in the end, it's not hurting anyone. It's just for enjoyment.
